Recently, my wife and I took a marriage personality assessment. It revealed that my style of communication, when unharnessed, has the potential to cause her to shut down and disconnect from the conversation. At that point, I quickly had to make a choice, either to maintain and justify my style of communication or take into consideration her style of communication. I could have said, “well that is just how I am.” But all of my teaching on the fruit of the Spirit led me to understand that humility is a critical ingredient to oneness. Love, joy, peace, patience, and gentleness are not just spiritual fruit that should be displayed only in Christian relationships at church, but should also be included in the most closest Christian relationship to me–my wife.
